$259.00 -Liquid error (snippets/product-price line 26): divided by 0%
This Teardrop cabochon of Ethiopian Black Opal has lots of green fire and some red, both of which really stand out against the black background. The setting is in 925 Sterling silver and it's a stepped bezel meaning there's an extra layer of Silver at the base which adds strength and also visually frames the gemstone. The back is also open - personally I always like to see this and there is in this case a nice green fire. Also this means that the energies of the stone are more open to yours.
Only discovered in the 1990s. Ethiopian Opals have become very popular. Due to their Volcanic origin they occur in solid nodules rather than sedimentary layers, so all Ethiopian Opals are solids.
Whilst Black Opals can occur naturally they are very rare. In Australia some White Opals are caremalised with sugar. These Ethiopians have been smoked in an enclosed space. Both techniques copy nature by adding Carbon to make the Matrix black. Since both treatments are fairly innocuous they don't in my opinion detract from the energies of the stone, but they do add a striking beauty.
